(STATS) - The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference is basically the surprise contributor to FCS-level wins over FBS programs.
Cinderella's shoes fit the conference, which has at least one victory in five of the last six seasons.
As FCS programs seek to make their mark again this year, here's a look at the games involving MEAC teams:
The Matchups (9) - Bethune-Cookman: Miami (Sept. 14); Florida A&M: UCF (Aug. 29); Howard: Maryland (Aug. 31); Morgan State: Bowling Green (Aug. 29) and Army West Point (Sept. 21); Norfolk State: Old Dominion (Aug. 31) and Coastal Carolina (Sept. 14); North Carolina A&T: Duke (Sept. 7); South Carolina State: South Florida (Sept. 14)
Glamour Game - Bethune-Cookman at Miami (Sept. 14): The Wildcats head down the Florida coast for a fifth meeting with Miami since 2011. The Hurricanes have won each time, most recently 41-13 in 2017.
Upset Alert - North Carolina A&T at Duke (Sept. 7): The two-time defending MEAC champion Aggies have beaten an FBS opponent in three straight seasons: Kent State (2016), Charlotte (2017) and East Carolina (2018). The matchup is a first between the two programs. Notable - Delaware State and North Carolina Central are not playing FBS opponents this season. N.C. Central has a scheduled matchup at Ohio in 2020. … Two new MEAC coaches will debut against FBS opponents - Howard's Ron Prince at Maryland and Morgan State's Tyrone Wheatley Sr. at Bowling Green. Morgan State also plays Army West Point, last facing two FBS opponents in 2016. … Norfolk State also has a pair of FBS games. Its cross-city matchup against Old Dominion will be the first game at the Monarchs' newly renovated stadium. The Spartans later play at Coastal Carolina. … Florida A&M won the only prior meeting with UCF, 19-14 in 1987 when the Knights were still playing in the FCS. … South Carolina State and South Florida are meeting for the first time.
